Polices Affecting Student Status

The period during which students may add and/or drop a course extends through the first 10 days of classes.  Courses that are dropped during this time are removed from the student’s course schedule and will not appear on a transcript.  In some cases, an instructor may not allow a student to add a course after the 5th day of class, if critical material has been missed.

While it is usually unrealistic to pursue a late add, a student may, with the permission of the instructor, add a course after the deadline has passed.  A student wishing to do so must first obtain an add/drop form, available from the Registrar, from Student Services in the CALS Dean’s Office, 106 Morrill Hall, or the Chair’s office at 102 Terrill Hall.

The student will need the signatures of the course instructor, his/her advisor and a signature from Student Services in the CALS Dean’s Office, 106 Morrill Hall before submitting the form to the Registrar’s Office in Waterman.

Requests to drop a course after the deadline cannot be approved unless a student provides documentation (official letter) from the instructor, stating he/she never attended the class.  Documentation should be submitted with the add/drop form to Student Services in the CALS Dean’s Office, 106 Morrill Hall.  Required signatures for the form include the course instructor, academic advisor and the Dean’s Office.

Students who miss the deadline to drop a course have the option of withdrawing from a course up until the 9th week of class.
