Policies Affecting Student Status

While many students in CALS find that existing departmental programs meet their academic needs, a few students choose to pursue a self-designed major that allows them to create a program uniquely suited to their academic goals.  For these students, CALS offers the Self-Designed major.

Students wishing to pursue the Self-Designed major must:

  • have accumulated no more than 80 credit hours prior to beginning the Self-Design
  • fulfill all College distribution requirements.
  • complete at least 40 credits in courses taught in the College of AG and Life Sciences; 20 of the 40 credits must be at the 100 level or higher.
  • develop the proposed major with, and receive approval from TWO CALS faculty advisors.
  • submit a proposal to the Student Services Dean’s for approval.
