CREAM Celebrated 25 Years -

Lily MuffinOn Homecoming Weekend, CREAM students, alumni, and friends of CREAM celebrated 25 years of the CREAM program in the Ellen A. Hardacre Equine Center at the Miller Research Farm. Everyone got together for a Meet and Greet from 4:30-5:30 followed by a BBQ from 5:30-6:30. Norm Purdie faculty advisor to CREAM introduced the founder, retired CREAM faculty advisor James "Gilly" Gilmore, who shared the history of the program and how it has changed through the years. Tom Vogelmann, Dean of the College of Agriculture and Life Sciences spoke of CREAM's contribution to the college and the community. Howard Lincoln, UVM Foundation Development Officer, urged alumni to make a fundraising commitment for the construction of a new CREAM barn with hopes of breaking ground in the spring of 2014. Laurence "LCJ" Jost, '80, rose from his table and presented Dean Vogelmann with a check for $2,500.

During the celebration, another exciting event was happening in the maternity barn. A CREAM herd Holstein gave birth to a calf. Emily Stephens, a UVM CALS junior in Animal Science from Nashua, New Hampshire, whose responsibility is to care for the calf, named him Barnaby.  See more photos from this event....
