The following are three animal-related internship options for either of
the Zoo New England zoos:
Interpreters work with the Education Department to encourage visitors
of all ages to think and learn about animals, habitats and conservation
by helping them interpret exhibits. A thorough training prepares you
with fun facts, information, and teaching tips needed to be an
effective interpreter, to answer guest questions, and to staff
educational stations. This is a great position for outgoing and
enthusiastic people who enjoy bringing environmental education to

While showing community spirit and interacting with families in a
positive and fun environment, these volunteers learn all about the zoos
and develop valuable customer service skills. Ambassadors help assure
that guests have a wonderful visit by greeting them upon arrival,
explaining the benefits of Zoo New England membership, answering
questions, and giving directions. Ambassadors also assist with exhibit
openings, guest enhancement activities, and special events by helping
before, during, and after events as well as staffing special activity
stations throughout the year.

Time Commitment: A flexible
volunteer position with 4-hour weekend shifts available during peak
visitation and special events.
Work behind-the-scenes with the Animal Management Department to help
provide for the health,safety, care and enrichment of Zoo New England's
diverse animal collection. Keeper Aides assist with preparing diets,
feeding animals, cleaning holding areas and recording observations.
NOTE: This position involves physically demanding, "dirty" work and
does not involve hands-on work with animals.
Qualifications: Keeper Aides
must be in good physical condition and able to pay careful attention to
details including safety requirements. Prior animal care experience

8-hour (7:30 a.m. - 4:30 p.m. winter or 8:30 a.m.-5:30 p.m. summer)
