Save Our Seabirds

Seabirds Wild Bird Learning Center is a non-profit wildlife
conservation and education organization located on the former site of
The Pelican Man Bird Sanctuary on City Island in Sarasota, Florida.
Their mission is to rescue, rehabilitate, and release injured birds,
and to educate the public about nature and environmental
sustainability. Birds that have been rescued but are unable to be
returned to the wild are given permanent homes in their Wild Bird
Learning Center. Save Our Seabirds rescues and cares for about 1000
birds per year.
Save Our Seabirds internships allow college
students and recent college graduates to gain valuable hands-on
experience in Avian Rehabilitation, Conservation, Education, and
support services. Interns will closely shadow the employees of SOS and
will gain experience with avian rehabilitation and the basic knowledge
on how to care and handle sick and injured wild birds. Each intern will
be in charge of an independent study that will be submitted at the end
of each session. This could include and not be limited to an
educational poster or presentation and/or workshop for the public.
are 10-14 weeks in length with interns normally working 40-hours per
week, and since SOS is a nonprofit research institution, internships
are unpaid. Duties include, but are not limited to, care of sick
and injured seabirds, assisting with the upkeep of the hospital,
assisting with the handling of wild birds, feeding, cleaning of cages,
assisting with the upkeep of the public viewing areas, public
interactions and events, and completion of an independent study.
Applicants must be responsible, adaptable, hard working, motivated to learn, and have an attention to detail. To be considered for an internship, submit
a one or two page Statement of Interest, a resume or CV, an unofficial
college transcript (minimum GPA of 3.0) and at least one letter of
