Willow Moon Farm is a small, 27-acre farmstead on the banks of the Winooski River near Montpelier, VT (the state capitol). They raise registered Sugar Moon Nigerian Dwarf Dairy Goats and sell goat cheese, eggs from their free-range hens, goat milk soaps, honey, and other farm products as they are seasonally available.

Their internship(s) begin in the spring with flexible start dates and end in the fall. Internships may be for the entire season or a part of the season based on individual and farm interests and needs.

Their internships focus on three areas, dairy herd management, kid management and cheese making. They provide opportunities to learn and participate in all aspects of farm and herd management including health and nutrition, safety, dairy protocols and processes and farm management including equipment maintenance and pasturing. Interns help with milking, kid care and feeding (goat not human), cheese making, etc. Internships include helping customers in the farm store, packaging products, assisting with marketing of products, cleaning, repairs and maintenance, garden preparation, weeding and harvesting. Interns always begin an internship with a discussion of their learning/experience.

Minimum Qualifications:

You must have your own car and computer (if you use one). We do have Internet access here...cell phones work if you stand in the right place and the planets are aligned. ;) You can get a signal if you take a very short walk.

Must have some experience and like working with animals and experience with farm animals and goats in particular is a big advantage (obviously). You must take work direction and feedback, by able to work on your own and with minimal direction once you've been taught how to do a task. You must bring a willingness to learn, a positive outlook and an ability to do fairly difficult physical labor. You must be strong enough to handle 40-50 pound bales of hay, pine shavings and bags of grain. You also need to be able to run fast and catch a goat (just kidding) A good sense of humor is a definite requirement.
