John Fusco with his ChoctawRed Road Farm - Choctaw Horse Conservation Program

Location:  Morristown, Vermont

Red Road Farm is located in the foothills of Vermont's beautiful Northeast Kingdom. The farm is dedicated to the preservation and promotion of the rare horse known variously as the Spanish Mustang, Barb, Original American Indian horse, and more recently and accurately as the Spanish Colonial Horse.

Writer and filmaker John Fusco founded the Choctaw Horse Conservation Program in association with Dr. Phillip Sponenberg of Virginia Tech, Bryant Rickman of Oklahoma, and the Return to Freedom Organization, as an immediate rescue effort to help preserve this historically, culturally, and scientifically important genetic resource before it is too late.

Intern duties include basic barn chores such as feeding and cleaning stalls, but students also gain first-hand experience handling a rare breed and learning about natural horsemanship training techniques.
