Northshire Farm offers an extremely supportive atmosphere to help
foster confidence and learning, while still focusing on goals and
Intern responsibilities include daily feeding,
turnout, stall cleaning, as well as small maintenance projects
(fencing, raking, painting, etc.). In addition, interns will be walking
horses, grooming, tacking, un-tacking, bathing, as well as completing
other miscellaneous horse care chores. The schedule is six days a week,
8 am-5:30 pm.
Housing is provided, as well as three lessons a
week. Either board for your horse, or a small stipend, is offered.
Interns must commit to 6-12 months at Northshire Farm, in order for
them to become truly immersed in the business and in Dressage (the
longer, the better).
Previous experience is preferable, but a
willingness to learn and to work hard are the most important qualities
in an intern. They have very fit, energetic equine athletes on the farm
that interns will be handling, so confidence in handling big horses is
a must. Northshire Farm has a wonderful "family" of people who help to
make interns feel at home and appreciated.
