Located in the Bluegrass region of Kentucky is an international company that is unique to the horse industry. Kentucky Equine Research, Inc. (KER) is an equine nutrition, research and consultation company serving both the horse producer and the feed industry. Its goal is to advance the industry's knowledge of equine nutrition and exercise physiology and apply this knowledge to produce healthier, more athletic horses.  They have opportunities for both year-long and summer internships.

KER Summer Internship

The summer program is offered yearly to one or two U.S. students who are interested in gaining hands-on experience in equine nutritional research. Applicants must have completed at least two years of an undergraduate degree in animals or veterinary science (equine emphasis) or a similar related degree. The internship is offered for a period of 3 months, normally during the summer (June-September). The intern will be based at the research facility in Versailles, Kentucky for the duration of the internship. Knowledge of basic horse care is necessary for this position. The application deadline for this post is February 15th of each year.

KER 12 Month Internship

Kentucky Equine Research also has a 12-month internship offered yearly to U.S. and overseas students or recent graduates who want to gain experience in equine nutrition rersearch. The fellowhsip is offered for a period of 12 to 18 months, depending on the applicant's situation and time available. The fellow will be based at the research facility in Versailles, Kentucky for the full duration of the fellowship. Previous horse experience is necessary for this position. Closing date for all applications is typically at the beginning of March (check their website for actual date).
