Job Description

Work closely with the equestrian director and dedicated horse staff in learning and contributing to the summer horse riding program focusing on dressage, vaulting and trail riding at a coed children's summer camp in mid-coast Maine. Your main responsibility will be to assist in the care of the camp's 17 horses. This internship is an opportunity to extend and gain new skills in this field.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities

Assisting the equestrian director in tasks such as feeding, mucking, turn out, equine medical needs, and horse schooling. Assist the horse staff in dressage and vaulting lessons and trail rides.

Hidden Valley Camp provides a multitude of opportunities to children and counselors on 350 acres of meadows, classic Maine woodland, and a large private lake. Acres of pasture and miles of trail support our thriving equestrian and animal care programs.

Hidden Valley is a few miles inland from the lovely Main coastal towns of Belfast and Camden, home to working waterfronts, galleries and restaurants, and Maine's breathtaking coastline.

Work hours

This is a residential position. Hidden Valley is generous with time off. Staff members get two hours off a day, as well as approximately every other night off, and one day off per week. Nights off begin around 6 pm and you're due back at 7:30 am the next morning. Days off are 36 hours: 6 pm to 7:30 am not the next day, but the day after.
