Save our Seabirds Wild Bird Learning Center is a non-profit wildlife conservation and education organization located on the former site of The Pelican Man Bird Sanctuary on City Island in Sarasota, Florida. Their mission is to rescue, rehabilitate, and release injured birds, and to educate the public about nature and environmental sustainability. Birds that have been rescued but are unable to be returned to the wild are given permanent homes in their Wild Bird Learning Center. Save Our Seabirds rescues and cares for about 1000 birds per year.

Save Our Seabirds internships allow college students and recent college graduates to gain valuable hands-on experience in Avian Rehabilitation, Conservation, Education, and support services. Interns will closely shadow the employees of SOS and will gain experience with avian rehabilitation and the basic knowledge on how to care and handle sick and injured wild birds. Each intern will be in charge of an independent study that will be submitted at the end of each session. This could include and not be limited to an educational poster or presentation and/or workshop for the public.

Internships are 10-14 weeks in length with interns normally working 40-hours per week, and since SOS is a nonprofit research institution, internships are unpaid.  Duties include, but are not limited to, care of sick and injured seabirds, assisting with the upkeep of the hospital, assisting with the handling of wild birds, feeding, cleaning of cages, assisting with the upkeep of the public viewing areas, public interactions and events, and completion of an independent study.

Applicants must be responsible, adaptable, hard working, motivated to learn, and have an attention to detail.
To be considered for an internship, submit a one or two page Statement of Interest, a resume or CV, an unofficial college transcript (minimum GPA of 3.0) and at least one letter of recommendation.
