stewart Riding to the Top Therapeutic Riding Center - (Marissa Stewart)
  Marissa Stewart

Marissa (on right) is leading Henry who is riding Teddy. Even though Marissa is in control of the horse, the rider (depending on ability) is the one who commands the horse to turn and stop.

Marissa gained experience working with people with disabilities and she assisted with horse therapy at Riding to the Top Therapeutic Riding Center in New Gloucester, Maine.  Riding to the Top is a non-profit organization that has been providing therapeutic riding services to people with disabilities since 1993. Marissa assisted with horse therapy classes so that she can eventually become certified to teach horse therapy classes herself.

I was teaching lessons by myself by the end of the summer, which was a huge responsibility and honor.  If you don't know anything about therapeutic riding, you should volunteer at the first opportunity you get.

I am also scheduled to take the certification next spring, which was my goal of this internship.  But most of all I never expected the respect, trust, responsibility, and friendship I gained by working on the farm.

I can't describe to you how wonderful it improve someone's life, to see them smile, giggle, and just enjoy life is so wonderful.

Every day I worked with people that were less fortunate than be part of the reason that they smiled, to see that they enjoyed life made me realize how precious my life is, and that's priceless.
