Additional leads and information that may help you locate internship opportunities are found on the the Department of Animal Science's Careers webpage.

A great range of animal-related and biological science opportunities are available through the many departments and agencies of the federal government. The USDA, the Bureau of Land Management, the Centers for Disease Control...just to name a few.  All of them have student internships, paid summer employment, and volunteer programs. There are field positions, administrative positions, research and laboratory positions, and more.  These are listed and described at: USA Jobs

Another strategy for locating opportunities in the federal government is to contact departments of interest directly. For example, if you are interested in learning about opportunities at the USDA you can visit its website ( ) and do a search for internships. Another example: the US Fish and Wildlife Service . These sites describe the department's programs and opportunities.  If you identify an interesting office or program go ahead and contact it -- even if it looks like no internship is available. Who knows -- if you make your interests and needs known to the right person, you might be able to "create" an opportunity for yourself. It happens all the time.
