Location:  Southern United States

During the summer of 2005 the Lee Campbell Poultry & Egg Educational Foundation will sponsor a work internship program for a qualified college student. The intern selected will be given the opportunity to work in the international marketing department in one of the most progressive poultry companies in the United States. The intern work location will be in the Southern part of the United States.

The Foundation will grant the intern $1,000 at the beginning of the internship to help defray travel and housing expenses. In addition, the student will be awarded another $1,000 at the end of the summer 2005 program for submitting an acceptable paper that discusses an aspect of poultry exports. Although the salary paid to the intern by individual poultry companies will vary, firms usually offer about $400 per week. Summer work periods are usually 8 to 10 weeks.

A student who meets the following award criteria and eligibility will be considered:

  • Student, preferably junior or sophomore, in good standing who has demonstrated or expressed an interest in international business or agriculture marketing, especially poultry.
  • Has completed a significant number of college courses in certain of the following courses: agriculture, marketing, business, international trade, foreign languages, or poultry science. International language ability and foreign cultural understanding are desired.
  • Has an accumulated strong grade point average, preferably a "B" or better.
  • Student willing to prepare an appropriate paper of his/her internship work activities or topic related to the international marketing of U.S. poultry products.

To become eligible for consideration, interested students must complete and submit the Foundations' internship application form and are encouraged to also submit a brief (up to two pages) essay about his/her career objectives and the benefits the internship would have for the student. Please note the deadline date is usually around March 1st; contact the Lee Campbell Poultry & Egg Educational Foundation for specifics.
