Location:  Ithaca, New York

If you are interested in getting some experience with hoofed animals but aren't crazy about cows, here's an opportunity that may interest you.

Laughing Goat Fiber is located on a 50-acre farm in upstate New York, near the southern gateway to the spectacular Finger Lakes region. Ithaca is a great place for young adults, being the home of Cornell University and Ithaca College. It is much like Burlington in the sense that it's a cosmopolitan town with a dynamic community. Laughing Goat has become well-known for their fiber products, breeding program, and animal sales. They are committed to sustainable agriculture and are currently experimenting with movable shelters, winter grazing, rotational grazing, etc. They have several species of goats.

Intern responsibilities involve all of the farm activities: animal care (hoof trimming, shearing, feeding, tagging, medicating, kidding, moving animals, etc.), equipment care (stacking hay, fence repair, tour set up, building shelters), fiber work (spinning, dyeing, skeining, pricing, etc.).

Laughing Goat Fiber accepts interns throughout the year.

Room and board is offered and they can be flexible about schedule and arrival/departure dates. However, interns are expected to be organized enough to fill out a schedule and make every effort to arrive as planned.
