Northshire Farm Northshire FarmNorthshire Farm

Location:  Winhall, Vermont

Northshire Farm is located in southern Vermont and offers boarding, lessons and training, as well as top quality sport horses for sale. They are committed to classical dressage training and instruction for both horses and riders of all ages and levels. They offer top quality care for horses, which makes for very happy athletes (human and equine). The owner, Jessica van Eyck, graduated from UVM's Equine Studies program at UVM and has the highest available USDF certification and has achieved her bronze, silver, and gold medals. She also graduated from the "L" judges training program with distinction, and therefore is able to approach teaching and training from a riding and judging perspective. Northshire Farm offers an extremely supportive atmosphere to help foster confidence and learning, while still focusing on goals and competition.

Intern responsibilities include daily feeding, turnout, stall cleaning, as well as small maintenance projects (fencing, raking, painting, etc.). In addition, interns will be walking horses, grooming, tacking, un-tacking, bathing, as well as completing other miscellaneous horse care chores. The schedule is six days a week, 8 am-5:30 pm.

Housing is provided, as well as three lessons a week. Either board for your horse, or a small stipend, is offered. Interns must commit to 6-12 months at Northshire Farm, in order for them to become truly immersed in the business and in Dressage (the longer, the better).

Previous experience is preferable, but a willingness to learn and to work hard are the most important qualities in an intern. They have very fit, energetic equine athletes on the farm that interns will be handling, so confidence in handling big horses is a must. Northshire Farm has a wonderful "family" of people who help to make interns feel at home and appreciated.
