Educational Internship
The Vermont Institue of Natural Sciences (VINS) is looking for an intern at our headquarters at the Vermont Raptor Center in Quechee, Vermont.  VINS is a nonprofit, statewide organization dedicated to protecting Vermont's natural heritage through education and research designed to engage individuals and communities in the active care of their environment.  Our education interns work as important members of our Education Department,  performing a range of duties that include team teaching with our professional staff and helping with program development.  We are seeking dynamic, motivated applicants who love teaching people about the natural environment.

DUTIES:
• provide captive management & husbandry for numerous species of hawks, eagles, owls & other wildlife
• assist staff with medical care of injured wild birds
• clean & maintain all indoor & outdoor animal facilities and aviaries
• perform daily husbandry tasks
• provide emergency care, feed, carry out medical treatments, and monitor health status for all permanent residents used in educational programs & exhibits
• assist finders of injured & orphaned birds and arrange transportation & rescue
• admit injured and orphaned birds
• maintain live rodent food colony
• complete an approved internship project
gain extensive hands-on training in raptor captive management, education bird handling & training, and avian rehabilitation

QUALIFICATIONS:
• Enthusiastic
• Ability to work both independently and in a team
• Strong interest in birds and wildlife husbandry
• Willingness to work long, hard, irregular hours in all weather conditions
• 18 years or older
• Hold a valid driver's license
• Physical capacity to catch and treat large birds, lift equipment weighing up to 40 pounds, climb stairs, walk preserve and carry equipment for routine maintenance
• Ability to work quickly & efficiently while following directions & procedures
• Have updated tetanus vaccination at time of beginning internship.
• Available to work 40+ hours per week, for a minimum of 6 months
• Have college degree, working towards a degree or have equivalent wildlife experience
• Must have own transportation

LENGTH OF INTERNSHIP:
• 6 months (minimum), 40+ hours per week

Stipend: Housing plus a stipend of $230 every 2-week pay period
