Location:  Brewster, New York.

Background:

  • Green Chimneys Farm Center is situated on a 150-acre site, is home to over 200 animals, and includes a stable, indoor riding arena, teaching barm, wildlife rehabilitation center, greenhouse, river, fields and forest. It is on the grounds of the Green Chimneys School, which is a residential treatment center/facility for emotionally disturbed children.
  • Interns assist with Farm Science, riding and greenhouse classes, help with public programs daily chores, and participating in other outdoor activities such as nature walks and cross-country skiing.
  • Interns also assist public tours, teacher workshops and weekend events.
  • Working at Green Chimneys Farm Center offers year-round experience in several fields: outdoor education, animal husbandry, special education, wild life rehabilitation, and horticulture.
Requirements:
  • An interest in children, animals, farms, and outdoor education
  • 20 years old, a junior in college, or the equivalent
  • A willingness to live in a institutional setting
  • A commitment to stay at least 3 months (6-12 month internships are available)
Conditions:
  • 40 hour work week
  • Living accommodations: Semi-private room is provided.
  • Free meals (breakfast, lunch, and dinner)
