NEW EQUINE CLASSES OFFERED BY THE ANIMAL SCIENCE DEPARTMENT

ASCI 298
ASCI 098 Basic Equitation - Balanced Seat - Beginner
ASCI 198 Basic Equitation - Balanced Seat - Novice

Students enrolled in this class are eligible for either 1 ASCI credit or 1 credit of PE as an Independent Study.

198 Sec F  11:00am - 12:15pm R - Novice

Riders will tack up their horse and receive a 45 minute group riding lesson with 3-4 riders per group. Lessons will be conducted at the Ellen A. Hardacre Equine Center on Animal Science school horses. There is a $280 horse use fee.

Beginner riders may have never sat on a horse before.
Novice riders are able to walk, trot, canter and halt a horse on command, sit and post to the trot and perform basic patterns like 20m diameter circles and 3 loop serpentines. For further information, please contact Dr. Josie Trott (jtrott@uvm.edu).

ASCI 198 Advanced Equine Instructing Techniques

Students will be instructing 1 group of riders each week, either alone or with another student. The riders will be signed up in Basic Equitation classes, beginner or novice level. Students will create lesson plans, keep track of problems and progress of individual riders, organize and run group riding lessons. and teach balanced seat riding to participants. Prerequisite ASCI 125.
