Policies Affecting Student Status

ENROLLING IN A SECOND MAJOR OR MINOR WITHIN CALS

Students may elect to enroll in a second major or minor.  This choice does not typically lengthen the students' stay at UVM and can significantly enhance their academic experience. When contemplating a second major, a student should consult the program requirements for that major.  As with all curriculum changes, the student and the primary advisor should carefully discuss the plan, looking at the additional requirements and anticipated graduation date.

Additionally, he/she should discuss the second major with the department chariperson, making sure space is available in the required courses and completing any necessary paperwork for a second major or minor.  An up-to-date transcript must accompany the form.

The student continues to maintain the primary advisor, however, a secondary advisor assignment is made at the time of the approval of the necessary form. The form is signed by the Department Chair and returned to Student Services in the Dean’s Office, #106 Morrill Hall for approval and processing.
