Animal Science Majors, Fall 2003

A full-time student needs to take between 12 and 18 credit hours/semester.  In your first semester we advise 15-16 credit hours as a maximum.

This is required for first-year students.  (avoid clash with the ASCI 001 Lab)

ASCI 001     Introductory Animal Science # 90354 (4 credits)
                      11:00-12:15 TR
                      Select one lab from the following:
                      90319   Lab A01   1:25 – 4:25 Mondays
                      90324   Lab A02   1:25 – 4:25 Wednesdays
                      90333   Lab A03   2:00 – 5:00 Thursdays
                      90336   Lab A04   1:25 – 4:25 Fridays

 This is required for ASCI Majors

CHEM 31 OR CHEM 23: (4 credits)

Chem 31 (Intro. Chemistry) is recommended for the Pre-vet option.  It requires a strong chemistry and math background.   Select one section from the following offerings:

You will also need to select a lab section from the various options listed in schedule for each section.

Chem 23 (Outline of General Chemistry) is for you if you have less chemistry background and you do not plan to attend veterinary, medical or graduate school.

BIOL 001    Principles of Biology  (4 credits)
                     # 91129  11:15-12:05  MWF  or  # 91248  09:05-09:55  MWF
                     You will also need to select any lab section from the schedule.

OTHER COURSES

Race and Culture Requirement (1 or 3 Credits)
One course addressing race relations and ethnic diversity is required for all students in CALS.  Students may enroll in the 1 credit Race and Culture course EDSS 0111 or may choose from a CALS faculty-approved list of alternative 3 credit courses such as ALANA 51, ALANA 55, SOC 19, SOC 31, SOC 118, SOC 119, ANTH 187, EC 153, GEOG 60, HST 60 HST 68, POLS 29, PLS 129, CMSI 160, ENG 57.  Students choosing the 3 credit course option satisfy 3 of the 6 credit social science distribution requirement.
 

Math
      Use Math 9 or 10  if you feel that you need a pre-calculus course.
      Select Math 13, or 19 for college calculus

Any introductory level Humanities.  Examples include:

  •  Philosophy
  •  Religion
Any introductory Social Science.  Examples include:
  • Anthropology
  • Consumer Economics
  • Small Business
  • Business courses

Additionally, you may select 1 credit of any Physical Education courses (PEAC)
