Cooperative  for Real Education in Agricultural Management

handbook Welcome to CREAM! You are now a CREAMer, and this handbook has been written to make the transition between each group smooth and to ensure that you learn the basic skills needed to run your business. One of the key elements of CREAM is that you, as a group, have final responsibility for running your business. Keep in mind the amount of money you are working with! Careful management is essential to maintain a break-even situation, and to hopefully obtain a profit situation. The following information will help you begin the year as a CREAMer. Good luck! This will be one of your greatest experiences at UVM!

CREAM - A Unique Learning Experience

CREAM is a course unlike any other at UVM, and teaches students a great number of skills. Student directed learning, both as individuals and as a group, is the primary principle behind the course. The majority of classroom settings include lectures and note taking, with an individual instructor in charge. In CREAM, students are in charge. They take responsibility for their own learning in addition to aiding in the learning of others. Learning is documented in journals, helping students answer their own questions. Together the group makes business decisions, is responsible for the health and wellbeing of a herd of animals, and learns valuable communication, team building, and problem-solving skills, while having fun in the process. This is accomplished through experiential or hands-on learning, an experience very different from other opportunities in a college setting.
