Dr. Gilmore
Honored at VT Agriculture Hall of Fame Luncheon
Sunday,
August 31, 2008, the VT Agriculture Hall of Fame celebrated its 6th
year of honoring Vermonters who have made a significant contribution to
farming and agriculture.
Photographs of
last year's recipients were unveiled by Lt. Governor Brian Dubie.
Among the 2007 recipients was CREAM's own Dr. Gilmore. His
Hall of Fame photograph will be displayed in the entryway of the Robert
E. Miller Expo Centre South at the Exposition.
In presenting
Dr. Gilmore's award in 2007, Jackie Folsom of the Vermont Farm Bureau
stated:
"Dr. James Gilmore, South Burlington,
VT, and recent retiree from the University of Vermont, is known
affectionately as "Gilly" to students, colleagues and friends alike. He
served the Department of Animal Science at UVM for more than 30 years.
His two abiding passions, dairy cows and students, came together with
the inception of CREAM, or Cooperative for Real Education in
Agricultural Management. His devotion to teaching Holstein breed
organizations and shows, the Vermont Dairy Herd Improvement Association
and his former students are a testament to his love of the industry."
