Top 5 states in terms of income from all agricultural commodities are California $18.2 billion, Texas $11.6 billion, Iowa $10.3 billion, Nebraska $8.7 billion, Illinois $7.6 billion.

Top 5 states in terms of income from animal agriculture are Texas ($7.5 billion), Nebraska ($5.6 billion), Iowa ($5.6 billion), California ($5.0 billion), Kansas ($4.6 billion). Vermont has receipts of around $388 million per annum from animal agriculture.

Major sectors are beef, dairy, sheep, swine and poultry. In many parts of the world aquaculture is very important and is increasing in the USA.
