WELCOME

Dr. Andre-Denis WrightCollege selection is an important and sometimes bewildering process, which is why we have developed this website to help you make an informed choice. Our Department offers Baccalaureate, Masters and Doctoral degrees in Animal Science as part of a small comprehensive University. We provide a stimulating educational experience through which you can explore your special interests, while developing your skills and your knowledge of domestic animals within the context of an excellent science and liberal arts education.

During the course of your studies you may select options that emphasize particular areas of interest, such as equine science, dairy production/management, pre-veterinary/pre-professional science, or general animal science. Practical experience can be gained through research projects, classes with labs, and a variety of internship opportunities. Many of our students study abroad for a semester, learning about other countries and cultures while earning credit  for their degree.

As a member of the College of Agriculture and Life Sciences (CALS), you can take courses in any of the Colleges of the University of Vermont. The Department of Animal Science offers small classes and personal attention. Several of our faculty members have received awards for teaching and/or advising. We pride ourselves on providing a high quality of education, personally tailored to your needs. You will find a welcoming environment in which you can express your individuality. Our goal is to see you succeed.

While many of our alumni go on to veterinary or graduate school or assume key management or technical positions in agribusiness or industry, others use the flexibility offered by their degree to pursue careers in law, banking, or the media. In this website we outline the many opportunities awaiting you and introduce you to the faculty who will help you achieve your goals.  I hope you like what you see and will want to be part of it. If you need further information or wish to arrange a personal visit to meet faculty and students, please contact Helen Maciejewski in the Animal Science office at (802) 656-0155 or through email at  Helen.Maciejewski@uvm.edu.

Thank you for your interest.
