Dr. Temple Grandin speaks at Ira Allen Chapel

Temple Grandin poses with Dr. David Kerr and Helyn KerrBestselling author and pioneer in the humane treatment of livestock, Animal Science professor Temple Grandin, spoke to a crowd of more than 800 on Tuesday, November 13 from 11:30 AM - 12:45 PM at the Ira Allen Chapel on the UVM campus. The presentation was sponsored by the Humane Society of Chittenden County and UVM's Department of Animal Science and was free and open to the public. Dr. Grandin held a book signing before and after the event, often engaging students in their future plans and encouraging them to pursue their interest in the study and needs of animals. Her books Thinking in Pictures (2006) and Animals Make Us Human: Creating the Best Life for Animals (2009) help us understand animal sentience across many species -- and give us a road map for making our animal companions happy within our human world. Thanks go out to Dr. David Kerr and Helyn Kerr who were instrumental in bringing Dr. Grandin to campus.  (The Kerrs are pictured here with Dr. Grandin.)
