Funding Opportunities in Animal Science at UVM
Funding Opportunities in Animal
Science
The Department of Animal Science is
home to some of the best and brightest students, high quality research,
and outstanding out-reach activities at the University of Vermont. Your
donation will help the Department continue to deliver first-rate
service in these areas. Annual gifts from alumni and friends at all
levels do make a difference. Please consider these opportunities:
Animal Science Fund - Gifts to this fund will be used
to strengthen a number of academic programs and research activities
such as:
- Humane Education Project - an education and outreach
program that enables our students to visit area schools where they help
educate children about how to care for their pets
- Equine Science Program - support of this expanding program
will provide new equipment, travel opportunities and clinics
- Cooperative for Real Education in Agricultural Management
(CREAM) Program - CREAM is beginning to develop plans for a new
barn and would appreciate any support to help them in their plans
- Companion Animal Resource and Education (CARE) Center -
support of this new initiative will lead to greater educational
opportunities for our students and the general public on nutrition,
reproduction and the health and welfare of pets
- Research Activity and Laboratory Equipment - the constant
use of our laboratories by students and faculty as well as an expansion
of research activity in dairy cow lactation biology and human breast
cancer studies provide great opportunities for funding support
UVM Morgan Horse Farm
- The historic UVM Morgan Horse Farm with its heralded breeding program
is in need of funds to pay for immediate facility improvements and
long-term endowment needs
- Matching funds are needed for a $365,000 federal grant
through the Save America's Treasures program
- The Donald J. Balch Endowment Fund - donations to the
Balch Fund help support the farm's outstanding breeding program; equine
education, and research and outreach activities
- The Friends Walkway - become a permanent part of the UVM
Morgan Horse Farm by donating a granite paver to the Friends Walkway ($275
donation for a 12x6 inch stone or $500 donation for a 12x12 inch stone)

Campaign Priorities Will Upgrade Classroom and Laboratory Facilities
at University Farm
A major fundraising campaign aimed at enhancing academic excellence on
a University-wide basis will include the College of Agriculture and
Life Sciences in a number of ways. Significant improvements are planned
for the 40-year-old University farm at the Miller Agricultural Research
Complex on Spear Street. There will be naming opportunities in
recognition of major gifts made to enable the installation of a new
modular classroom, research laboratories and modern barn for the
student-run CREAM herd. Please contact Howard Lincoln, development
officer for the College of Agriculture & Life Sciences at (802)
656-2509 or
howard.lincoln@uvm.edu
for information about these important campaign objectives.
